May 10, 1994: The Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit Makes Its Public Debut — Stealth Technology and Aviation's Future

The Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth bomber is one of the most technologically advanced aircraft ever built, and May marks key milestones in its operational history. With its distinctive flying wing design, the B-2 represents the cutting edge of aerospace engineering.

The B-2 Spirit is unlike any other aircraft in existence. Its flying wing design — with no vertical tail surfaces and a wingspan of 172 feet — gives it an incredibly low radar cross-section, allowing it to penetrate the most heavily defended airspace in the world. Each B-2 costs approximately $2.1 billion, making it the most expensive combat aircraft ever produced.

But beyond the price tag and the stealth technology lies something that every aviation enthusiast can appreciate: a masterpiece of aerodynamics. The B-2 is stable, powerful, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons, and able to fly 6,000 nautical miles without refueling.

Only 21 were built, and 20 remain in service with the United States Air Force at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. Each aircraft is named after a U.S. state — a tradition that honors the nation they protect.

The B-2 is proof that aviation never stops pushing limits. At Cleared4Tees, we build tees for people who appreciate that engineering.
