May 8, 1945 — Victory in Europe Day. As the guns fell silent across Europe, the world celebrated the end of World War II in the European theater. For aviation history, V-E Day marks the moment when the greatest air war in human history came to an end.
The air war over Europe was unlike anything seen before or since. From the Battle of Britain to the bombing campaigns over Germany, from the Tuskegee Airmen to the Eagle Squadrons, World War II aviation was defined by courage, sacrifice, and some of the most iconic aircraft ever built.
The Spitfire, the P-51 Mustang, the B-17 Flying Fortress, the Lancaster bomber — these are not just aircraft; they are monuments. The pilots who flew them were often teenagers, far from home, facing odds that defied description. They fought in freezing skies at 30,000 feet, and many never came home.
On V-E Day, the surviving airmen could finally breathe. Their war was over. Their legacy would last forever.
V-E Day honors every pilot who flew for freedom. At Cleared4Tees, we carry that history on every tee.
