This Day in Aviation History — April 25

A look back at the moments that shaped the skies we fly today.

April 25, 1953 — The First Helicopter Rescue Under Fire in Korea

On April 25, 1953, U.S. Army helicopter pilots flew one of the most daring medevac missions of the Korean War, extracting wounded soldiers from a hot landing zone under direct enemy fire. It wasn't the first helicopter rescue of the war — but it became one of the defining moments that proved rotary-wing aviation could do something no fixed-wing aircraft ever could: land anywhere, save anyone, and get out alive.

The helicopter medevac crews of Korea didn't have armor. They didn't have door gunners. They had a fragile aircraft, a lot of courage, and an absolute refusal to leave anyone behind.

That tradition — of flying into danger so others can live — lives on in every medevac crew, every search-and-rescue pilot, and every Coast Guard aviator flying today.

No One Left Behind

Medevac helicopter crews have always been the unsung heroes of aviation. At Cleared4Tees, rotorcraft gets the respect it deserves.
